TENNESSEE LEGISLATURE HONOURS GEORGE HAMILTON IV
Reception At State Capitol Building Follows European Tour
Upon his return from a non-stop European tour, George Hamilton IV was thrilled to have received an invitation to the Tennessee State Capitol, honouring the entertainer's 50 years with the Grand Ole Opry. The event – Joint Resolution #813 of the Senate and House of Legislature – will take place at 9.00am on March 25, 2010.
Accompanying George IV will be his wife Tink, George V and wife Lillian and grandson George VI. Pete Fisher, manager of the Grand Ole Opry, has also been invited.
Previous country music entertainers to have received this honour have included Elvis Presley, Eddy Arnold and Bill Anderson.
Earlier, in celebration of his fiftieth anniversary with the Grand Ole Opry (February 6, 2010), George Hamilton IV had completed a month long 'solo acoustic' tour of British churches - with side trips to Northern Ireland for further concerts and a little detour to Tenerife in the Canary Islands, off the African coast, for two fund raising concerts in aid of the Haiti earthquake disaster.
Following his February-March tour (without a single night off!), the 'International Ambassador of Country Music' flew from Dublin to Nashville – and straight from the airport to a Gordon Lightfoot concert at the Ryman Auditorium, the historic home of the Grand Ole Opry.
Although George IV has recorded more Gordon Lightfoot songs than any other artist, (other from Gordon himself, of course!), this was the first time that he had seen his friend and 'folk-country' inspiration in concert.
'Gordon Lightfoot introduced me to Canadian 'folk-country' music and made me aware of other songwriters from the North Country like Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen' George explains. 'It was because of his inspiration and friendship that I recorded five albums of all Canadian music and had my own Canadian television series for several years. In my humble opinion, when it comes to Canadian songwriters and poets, he is the master, the teacher and the best of them all.'
(George Hamilton IV's Canadian tv series enjoyed extensive international exposure and was seen in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa).
All of George IV's recordings of Gordon Lightfoot material, along with other Canadian compositions, are included in a new Bear Family cd set, details to be announced shortly.

2010 Sees Release Of 2 new international CDs & 50th Anniversary With The Grand Ole Opry

Country music's International Ambassador, George Hamilton IV, recently returned from a month long Christmas concert tour of Irish churches, many in the company of Ireland's top country-gospel group, Live Issue.

While in Ireland he completed his master vocals for the upcoming gospel cd project with County Armagh's Live Issue and a mass of Grand Ole Opry stars and legendary Gospel performers, among them George Beverly Shea, Cliff Barrows, Pat Boone, Slim Whitman, Connie Smith, Marty Stuart, Ricky Skaggs and Bill Anderson. Recordings for this unique project have taken place in studios on both sides of the Atlantic.
Just prior to leaving for Ireland, George IV was named 'Entertainer Of The Year' by the Reunion of Professional Entertainers (R.O.P.E. International) – this award being primarily in recognition of his 'globe trotting' activities during the previous 12 months.
2009 provided another hectic year of international touring for the entertainer, commencing in the Feb/March period with a non-stop, extensive tour of Ireland and the United Kingdom, which was followed by a return to England in May. Then he embarked on several trips to Canada throughout June to September, with extensive appearances in Alberta, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton.
In addition to the many thousands of miles travelled, the 'International Ambassador' also found time to add the finishing touches to another international recording project, this time in Poland with award winning local country-rock group Colorado Band and George Hamilton V. The tracks for this cd were laid down in Lodz, Poland and Nashville, Tennessee.
Both the Irish and Polish cds are set for Spring 2010 release.
And a note for the diary: George Hamilton IV celebrates his 50th anniversary with Nashville's Grand Ole Opry on Saturday, February 6. 'It's been a real honour to have been associated with the Opry for this period of time', says George IV. 'It's my musical homeplace which I first started visiting as a teenager. Back then I would regularly catch a Greyhound bus from North Carolina and dream about performing on the Opry. But never, in my wildest dreams, did I ever think that one day I would be celebrating 50 years as a member of the Grand Ole Opry'.
To celebrate the occasion, George IV is planning a 'meet and greet' with fans and friends. Details to be announced.
